Bachi
The Bachi is an Australian-made hibachi grill, Billy Smoker’s take on the compact Japanese charcoal grill, scaled up to handle solid wood as well as charcoal. A grate in the base feeds airflow for clean charcoal cooking, and rails along the sides hold the grilling swords steady while letting the grill slide in and out of the heat to control the cook.
Built from 2mm raw mild steel, left bare to develop a patina with use, or available in stainless steel if you’d rather it stay clean. The elevated base keeps heat off non-combustible floors below. Takes the Gr8 grill and grilling swords.

Use, maintenance and care
The Bachi is made to weather. The raw mild steel version develops a patina of warm rust tones with use and exposure, and that’s part of the finish, not a fault, no painting or sealing needed. The stainless steel version stays cleaner and resists corrosion in covered or exposed spots.
After cooking, let it cool fully, then tip out ash and clear the base grate to keep airflow up. Wipe the surfaces with a damp cloth, avoid abrasive pads and harsh cleaners. To slow the patina on the raw steel version, keep it dry and under cover between uses, though bare steel left out will keep ageing regardless. Always set it on a non-combustible surface.
